Technical Stack for Local Encryption Notes

Clear goal: content is stored locally and encrypted at rest. This means the key cannot be stored with the content.
The implementation derives keys from user passwords. Keys are retained only in memory; what is written to disk includes ciphertext and minimal metadata, which is kept as concise as possible.
Search is challenging because encrypted data cannot be directly full-text indexed. We solved this by building an in-memory index after unlocking, balancing privacy and speed.
The scope of such tools should be kept in check: the more features you add, the larger the surface area that requires encryption protection.
